Former state press association executive
Doug Crews has worked as a lobbyist in the State Capitol for more than 35 years. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Journalism in 1973 from the University of Missouri, Columbia. He edited and/or co-published four Missouri community newspapers before joining the Missouri Press Association’s staff in 1979 in Columbia. He was MPA’s Assistant Director for 11 years before serving as Executive Director from 1990 until his retirement in 2016. Doug continues to lobby in Jefferson City for the press association on issues affecting newspapers, the news media and the public, such as Missouri’s Sunshine Law, open meetings and open records of state and local governments, and a variety of other topics.
